Is the HCC in charge of historical buildings or information plaques around historical areas?
We've reproduced a couple of articles about conservation at HCC which were previously published in NHB's very own magazine, beMUSE.
"Conservation Decoded" talks about the subtle differences between these two related concepts and also uses some interesting case studies to illustrate the kind of work that our conservators do. It also explains what the three guiding principles of conservation are, which HCC conservators adhere to in order to minimise and reduce the impact of any negative long-term effects of their actions.
"What Lies Beneath" is an intriguing article which highlights the use of infra-red imaging in conservation of paintings, and shows some examples of how this has been carried out to great effect by the paintings conservation team here at HCC.
